This article provides an overview of reviewers and followers (also sometimes referred to as subscribers) in Unity and how to assign them at various record levels. Reviewers and subscribers are defined as follows:
- Reviewers are users or User Teams assigned to approve/reject invoices attached to specific matters, vendors, matter groups, vendor groups, or legal entities.
- Followers are users or User Teams with view-only access to invoices attached to specific matters, vendors, matter groups, vendor groups, or legal entities. This is for users who do not need to adjust invoices but need to remain informed of overall invoicing/matter activity.
Reviewers and followers can be assigned using the modals shown below:
Reviewer Modal:
A hierarchy, or "levels," of reviewers can be set up so that one (i.e., Any of) or all (i.e., All of) reviewers are required to review and approve an invoice before it is moved to the next level or before the invoice review cycle ends. Reviewers receive notifications for review/approval only when the invoice has reached their specific level.
NOTE: As an alternative to adding individual invoice reviewers, you can group them into User Teams to make administration and assignment easier. Using teams can prevent delays in invoice review by mitigating issues with any potential team restructuring/turnover and helping with distributing review workload.
Follower Modal:
Reviewers and followers can be assigned/edited from the following areas:

| Matter | Go to the Reviewers tab from an individual matter record to view or add/edit invoice reviewers and followers. |
| Vendor | Go to the Reviewers tab from an individual vendor record to view or add/edit invoice reviewers and followers. |
| Legal Entity | Go to Settings > Legal Entities to open an individual legal entity and switch to the Reviewers tab. NOTE: The term Legal Entity may appear differently depending on custom label settings (e.g., Entity). |
| Practice Area | Go to Settings > Practice Areas to open an individual practice area and switch to the Reviewers tab. NOTE: The term Practice Area may appear differently depending on custom label settings (e.g., Matter Group). |
| Invoice | Only reviewers can viewed/edited or added from the Reviewers section on the right side of an invoice's details page. This includes reviewers manually assigned and reviewers automatically assigned via an invoice review rule (e.g., Legal Entity Approvers, Practice Area Approvers, etc.). To see why an invoice reviewer was assigned, click on the caret to expand the level of reviewers, click on the ... (more) option next to a user name, and click on Why? to see the origination. |
NOTE: Automatic assignment of reviewers to incoming invoices is driven by invoice review rules in your environment (if enabled). For more information, refer to the Rule Management article.
