FAQ Directory

Does Counsel Exchange have a customer-facing API?

It does not; as a result, we do not have API documentation to share.

How can you change a fee arrangement for a Billing Authorization Request?

Vendors do not update fee arrangements on matters. Fee Arrangements are set by the customer and not the vendor. If a fee arrangement needs to be updated, the vendor must request an update from the customer, and the customer must take the necessary actions.

How can I update the administrators in a Counsel Exchange account?

You can find directions on updating the administrators here

What is the Counsel Exchange session timeout length?

The Counsel Exchange session timeout length is 120 minutes. After that time, you'll have to log in again.

Do invoices need to be in English?

No. Counsel Exchange also supports German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese.

How can a vendor edit an approved invoice?

Either contact the customer (who will then contact Onit support) or contact Onit Support directly so our team can coordinate with the customer to dispute the invoice in order to make it available for editing.

How can a vendor alter an adjustment on an approved/paid invoice?

Contact the customer directly. They will then (pending the customer's judgment) contact support to request a workaround.

How do I get rid of an error that states I must add an attachment to an invoice?

Attach the file to the invoice, then resubmit the invoice.

How do I enable my user to see a particular client?

In Counsel Exchange for OnitX ELM, they can see them all by default.

How can I add, edit, or remove an expense or fee item after submission?

Ask your client to reject the invoice, then edit and resubmit.

What's wrong with my matter ID?

Make sure your matter ID is in put correctly. Please be advised that the client_matter_id is case sensitive. You must copy and paste it from the matter page, which lists the correct matter_id.

How do I submit a new matter?

Vendors do not submit matters for Onit customers. Customers create matters and add vendors to them, which creates a Billing Authorization request and allows for invoicing on the vendor end inside Counsel Exchange. To have a new matter opened, reach out to your customer.

How do I enable our notifications?

Approval notifications are typically only handed on a customer level and are configured to their exact specifications, so there is no one place to enable or disable notifications inside Counsel Exchange for OnitX ELM customers.

How do I create a custom staff classification in Counsel Exchange?

The creation of custom staff classifications for timekeepers is not supported in Counsel Exchange at this time.

How do I (a vendor) reject an invoice?

Vendors do not reject invoices; only customers can reject them. If you need a customer to reject an invoice, reach out to that customer for further assistance.

What office is my matter assigned to?

Most Onit customers do not enforce office selection on the matter level. There are a handful that do, and in those cases, you must reach out to the customer for assistance in determining the proper office to use.
