This Quick Reference Guide provides a high-level overview of the new user interface for the invoice line-item commenting feature that is being rolled out as a follow-up to the Invoice New View redesign in the Invoice app in ELM.
This feature enables clients and vendors to comment at the line-item level when viewing and reviewing an invoice.
Client-side:
In the Invoice app, on the Invoice New View tab, a client user can now add and view line-item comments in each line item.
On the leftmost side of the column in the line item (tertiary section) of Invoice New View, users can click on the number column (with the downward-facing arrow in the column header) in the respective row to initiate the line-item comment popup window.
A blue circle will appear in the leftmost column if another user has added a new comment.
Once the user clicks on the blue dot, the Line-Item Comments to Vendor popup box will be displayed to view existing comments and to add any new comments by typing text in the comment text box. By clicking “Post,” the system will add the comment for that line item, which can be viewed by other users who have access to that invoice, and the comment count at the top of the tab, as shown below, will increase by one.
Vendor side:
On the Invoice view page in the Vendor account, a vendor user can now add and view comments for other vendor and client users for each line item.
Users can click on the Comment column (with the Comments icon as the column header) to initiate the line-item comment popup window in the rightmost column of the Invoice lines. If another user has added a new comment, a blue circle will appear in the rightmost column.
Once the user clicks on any number in the Comments column, the Line-Item Comments popup box will be displayed to view existing comments and to add any new comments by typing text in the comment text box. By clicking “Add Comment,” the system will add the comment for that line item, which can be viewed by other users who have access to that invoice, and the comment count at the top of the tab will increase by one.

- Question: Is this available for the old Invoice view?
Answer: Line Item Commenting feature is only available for the Invoice New View released and made available to clients in 2021.
- Question: Can a user delete a comment posted by them or another user?
Answer: Users cannot delete or remove a comment once it is posted by the client or vendor.
