Invoice New View Redesign
Below is the current invoice design. Some of the challenges previously raised by clients were: •
- Important data in the Fee and Expense Line-Item sections was hard to find and required a lot of vertical scrolling and clicking
- Task Codes/Activity Codes were hard to find in the Fee section
- Limited space to view the information in the Line-Item Description field section
- Error messaging display and verbiage were ambiguous
- Adjustment message display was jarring to the user
- No Line-Item section custom columns
- No Line Item Commenting functionality (planned release by the end of 2021)

The New View invoice redesign and development have addressed these challenges. The design is a cleaner, more modern layout that displays the information in a more palatable way for clients reviewing line items in an invoice. The Invoice, Matter, and Vendor boxes in the previous designs are now three separate tabs in the New View.
The Invoice New View redesign consists of three main sections.
- The Primary tabs display the high-level invoice summary information and include the aggregated fees, expenses, adjustments, discounts, tax, and final total amounts.
- The Secondary tabs display invoice-level information, such as billing rules warnings, invoice-level adjustments, discounts, and tax amounts. Related attachment files about the invoice are also viewable.
- The Tertiary tabs display all invoice line items along with adjustments and taxes applied to the line items. Users can create, edit, and remove line-item adjustments.
- The Line Items tab displays all line items. All other tabs (LineItem Alerts, Line-Item Adjustments, Line-Item Taxes, Timekeepers, Tasks & Activities, and Expenses) provide compartmentalized lists of the line items to showcase what might be important to the respective reviewer.
- Users also can search and filter line items across tabs.
- The Filtered Total will be displayed once the filter is applied.
- Users can expand the invoice to full screen to view and analyze line items more clearly

Matter tab
This tab displays other invoices posted by the respective vendor on the same matter. This tab shows invoice totals in aggregate, along with relevant matter information.
Vendor tab
This tab displays invoices from all vendors associated to the matter. This tab also shows budget amounts for the associated vendors in aggregate along with other pertinent vendor information.
Above the Invoice, Matter, and Vendor tab, users still can:
- See Invoice name, number, and status
- Change invoice currency
- Add, edit, and remove Invoice-level adjustments
- Post and view comments to and from the vendor
- Print invoice
- Email the invoice in PDF format
- Download the invoice as an Excel document
FAQs
Question: What exactly is going to be different after then?
Answer: A new tab in the Invoices app called “New View” will be available for ELM users who conduct invoice reviews. The user experience has improved, with less scrolling and better visualization, organization, and display of the line items to improve clients’ experience when reviewing invoices. Regarding performance, on average, App Builder has a 17% faster load time for larger invoices (over 200 line items), and very large invoices (1500-2000 line items) load 22% faster.
Question: What will happen to the current invoice review tab? Answer: Nothing for now. In the future, the default invoice review will switch to the “New View.” There will be ample advanced communication about this change. And then, again, with plenty of advanced communication, the current invoice review tab will go away at another date. Then, all invoices will be conducted via the “New View” tab.
Question: Will any other types of messaging contained within the product about this “New View”? Answer: Yes, there will be a banner alert informing users of this “New View” tab when reviewing invoices in the current invoice review tab with this messaging: “Check out New View tab, the newly redesigned Invoice page to review your invoices now!” along with a link to additional documentation.
Question: To whom should I reach out if I have additional questions about any of this?
Answer: Your account managers will be the best starting point, and the Product Management Team will address anything they cannot answer.
