Migrating an App from the Wizard to Forms Builder

by Alex Heath Updated on

Migrating from the Wizard to Forms Builder (FB) occurs by migrating each app individually. Bulk migration is not available.

1. Enable Environment

We currently recommend using Forms Builder in a sandbox environment.

Forms Builder (FB) can currently be enabled in any environment for any app.

To enable FB for an environment:

  1. Go to Administration.
  2. Open Corporation Settings.
  3. Select Beta Features.
  4. Enable the Enable Forms Builder from Advanced Designer checkbox.
  5. Click Update.
Enable Environment

2. Migrate Apps

Migrating to Forms Builder from the Wizard is a one-way journey. Apps cannot be migrated back. We currently recommend migrating only non-essential apps to learn Forms Builder.

Once migrated, the Fields page in Wizard is frozen and will not show any new changes done via Forms Builder.

Once Forms Builder (FB) is enabled in an environment, you can migrate on an app-by-app basis. Once migrated, the app will refer to FB for:

  • Forms
  • Tabs
  • Which form is assigned to Quicklaunch, Atom/Record, or Embedded grid
  • Roles
  • Phases
  • Fields in the Datamodel

To enable Forms Builder for an app:

  1. Go to the app Get Started with Configuration page.
  2. In the tools section, click the Migrate to Forms Builder button.
  3. Check the confirmation box.
  4. Click the Migrate to Forms Builder button in the modal.
Migrate Apps

The Settings page in FB is the same one as in Advanced Designer. Any changes made to Settings from FB are immediately reflected on the Settings page in Advanced Designer.

3. Use App Packaging

Forms can be migrated between subdomains through App Packaging. The Packaging functionality has been enhanced to include Forms Builder data. If the source app is in Forms Builder mode and the destination app is not in Forms Builder mode then the package import process will enable Forms Builder for the destination app and import the Forms Builder data. Forms Builder history will mark the points where data was imported through Forms Builder

Before migrating the app from UAT to a production environment that has data, check that the production environment has the Enable Forms Builder from Advanced Designer checkbox checked. When the package is imported into production it will auto convert all apps to Visual Forms Builder and bring over any apps/changes.
